Bachelor’s Degree

AUTOMATION

The study in the field of study 19 Cybernetics at FEIT UNIZA takes place in the 1st degree of study in the accredited study program Automation.

Graduate Profile

Graduates' knowledge follows on from general secondary education and is typically at the level of advanced textbooks supplemented with selected aspects of the latest knowledge from the field of study. The graduate has synthesis-level knowledge in the field of process automation. He/she can classify knowledge from the theory of automatic control, systems theory, modelling, and simulation of systems, optimization, technical and software equipment of control systems, digital and embedded systems, machine learning, measurement, and signal processing. He/she has specific knowledge in the main topics of technical education of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, informatics, and automatic control of systems. He/she can apply his/her knowledge and understanding in a manner that indicates a professional approach to the work or profession and has competence usually demonstrated through presenting and defending arguments and solving problems in his field of study. He/she can design and program algorithms including real-time tasks, collect and interpret relevant data, and make informed decisions considering the necessary aspects. The graduate can creatively use the latest technologies of control systems, use information technologies, specify problems of networks and information systems, maintain control systems, use functional and operational options of control and information systems, and automation systems, creatively apply acquired knowledge, work effectively with data and information, use system approach in the task analysis and task solutions. He/she can effectively use methods from the field of machine learning. The graduate can independently use cyber and information technologies in the system control and can present appropriate and professionally correct opinions on solving problems, both to professional and laymen audiences. He/she can work effectively both independently (individually) and as a team member as well. Has/she has the developed educational skills necessary to continue further studies with a high degree of independence.

The profile of the graduate is achieved based on the fulfilment of three complex goals (knowledge, skills, and competencies):

  • KNOWLEDGE: To acquire a general knowledge of the field of Cybernetics at the level of synthesis and practical and methodological knowledge in the field of automation serving as a basis for practice and research
  • SKILLS: To acquire the cognitive and professional skills necessary for the design and implementation of solutions to specific professional problems in the field of cybernetics, including the creative use of methods, tools, devices, and materials and the necessary modification of general and professional knowledge
  • COMPETENCIES: To acquire the necessary competencies: independence in solving specific problems in a changing environment, planning one's education, autonomy and responsibility in decision-making, creative and flexible thinking, and the ability to present one’s own opinions appropriately and professionally.

The profile of the graduate is following the approved content of the field of study Cybernetics (in Slovak).

Ready for Job Positions

According to existing qualification structures (e.g. the National System of Qualifications), the graduate will be employed in occupations corresponding to SKKR level 6, e.g. as an Automated Control Systems Technician (for various application areas), Application Programmer, Programmer, Information System Administrator, Database Specialist, Database Administrator, ICT tester, or PLC programmer (with a higher specialization than stated for SKKR 4). In all the mentioned professions, the added value of the graduate is the ability to perceive the issue of safety and reliability of control structures and to approach their solution properly.
